Weekend Update

I've been meaning to do this since August. Or at least September. Alas, the time has come, and I must put pen to paper. Er, fingers to keyboard?

I'm not really sure how to start this, since that which was new and exciting in September has now become Life. That said, I do vaguely remember some of my initial feelings/excitements upon arrival...

*Queue the chimes and the haze as I drift off to flashbacks...*

*Sweat. After lugging my 50 pound suitcases up two flights of stairs, only to be welcomed by the stifling, thick, dense heat that is the attic, I hopped in the shower. Rinsed off the sweat. Got out. Started sweating again.

*I arrived on a Friday night, started school on Monday morning. That weekend was the longest of my life. No friends. No car. Ouch. It hurt.

*Orientation happens on Monday, and I'm in a room full of people I have never seen before. I wonder if I will *really* be friends with any of them. I wonder what their stories are. I notice the ratio of men to women is NOT in my favor...

*I make friends! Mikki, Brad, Barnabas, and I carpool from the nearby seminary to school for the next week with the rental car that Brad got. We are a dream team.

*I make more friends! Dan, Jake, and Mikki graciously accompany me down to Center City to pick up Tasha (recent fellow east-coaster) from the bus station. Jake and I sing about milkshakes in the Wawa, and we knew we would be friends for life. Tasha arrives, and life is good. I officially love Philadelphia.

*I buy a car. Improvement.

*Mom and Chris come and make their appearance. I go to State College for the weekend. I eat real food for a hot minute.

*Car breaks down. Gets fixed. Money spent.

*Semester FLIES by. I make more friends, I get two jobs (one working for Tony Campolo, the other working for you [Starbucks]), I sing more songs. And, as if it weren't official before, I LOVE Philly.

*More money spent on car. Car potentially falling apart due to rust. Ugh.

*I go home for Christmas break. Gain an extra ten pounds thanks to Grandma.

*I come back to Philly. It's cold. It snows. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

*School starts. Kind of. I'm going into the fourth week of the new semester, and due to an introductory residency and blizzard-like conditions, have not had one of my classes yet. We will have it twice this week...

So that's where I am now. I'm sure I left both important and not-so-important details out. It's supposed to reach a toasty 44 degrees today...a vast improvement from the lower 20's that we've been experiencing.

Here's some pictures:

Great "Cliff Notes" version of the past six months! However I think you failed to note the "send money" theme which ran throughout the period. XOXO
